Identity theft from Matrimonial Sites

Getting married is a beautiful thing in every man’s life. There has been a tremendous increase in the marriage portals in recent years .Most of the IT and allied professionals relay on these websites to find a good match. But some recent news revel some point that a person needs to be cautious in registering in marriage portals.

Terrorists are using individual details and photos from marriage portals to forge identity documents .A captured terrorist has confessed to the ATS(Anti Terrorist Squad) that he had used the details to create identity cards and driving licenses .One of the alleged members of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) , Anik Sayyed a computer professional has made the confession statement before the magistrate. He used the popular sites like Shaadi.com and
Bharati.com to get photo and information of persons. The photos were on later edited and used in creating forged land deal documents.

Most of us are unaware of these kinds of threats. The information we gave to these portals are safe according to us and the administrators of the portal. We can't identify whether the documents are stolen unless someone is deforming the details in the portals itself or incident like the previous one happens.

These are some precautions measures that help to keep our data safe to an extend .

  1. While uploading photos , use full size or half size photos rather than using passport size photos.
  2. Use photos with less resolution.
  3. Enter partial address .You have given your email Id ,once some body contacts you can provide the full address.
  4. Once you find your partner , delete the profile from the site.
Hope you will comment some more useful points.
