Brother Eagle, Sister Sky

Environmental protection is becoming more and more relevant. Everybody is coming across Global warming, Green House gases ever day. Last day my sister came tome and asked to teach her one of her chapter in the text book .It was a speech done a man called Chief Seattle .He was the chief of the Duwamish , Suquamish Red Indian tribes. The famous speech was given by Chief Seattle in 1854 - a hundred and fifty years back , even we had never thought of environment protection - three years before we started the first war of Indian Independence. Its an inspiring speech that continue to inspire millions , that reveals the truth .The same day I also came across a documentary in HBO 'The 11th hour ' with the same theme . So I thought it’s the right time to write about environment protection.

The speech was delivered in the time when the then US government wanted to buy land from the native tribes for industrialization and cultivation purposes .Franklin Pierce was the President of the United States at that time.It was one of the greatest speeches on environmental awareness .The speech starts with the following words.

" How can you buy or sell the sky , the warth of land ?The idea is strange to us."
It continues by saying that we are part of earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sister; the deer, the horse, the great eagle, these are our brothers. He wants the white people to inspire their children by saying that

"..rivers are our brothers and you must henceforth give rivers the kindness you would give any brother"
"What is man without beasts? If all the beasts were gone man would die of great loneliness of spirit. Or whatever happens to beasts’ soon happens to man. Everything is connected."

These are really sentences of a visionary person .Man is on the top of the food chain. Those in the food chain failed to survive became extinct. Man being on top will be last to become extinct.Man always eats more he wants .When one side of the world struggles with poverty the other side lives profusely. There is a great imbalance in lives around the world.Animals will stop hunting once their hunger is over but for man he will omit whatever he ate to eat more.

“His appetite will devour the earth and leave behind only a desert".

The 11th hour is a documentary created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, The documentary contains narrations of more than fifty famous environmentalists, leaders, social activists and scientists. It explains grave problems face by the planet earth like Global warming,
deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans .The documentary proposes solutions to these problems by calling for recuperative action by the reshaping and rethinking of global human activity through technology, social responsibility and conservation.

There is a lot more you need to know about including carbon - footprint,You should calculate your carbon -foot print and find ways to reduce it if it cross the marks.Lets contribute ourselvesfor the well being of our planet
